Natural sapphires, or earth-mined sapphires, are a variety of the mineral Corundum (Aluminum Oxide) and the designated birthstone of September. Derived from the Greek word “sappherios,” sapphires reveal an array of colors, rank 9 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, and lead tales and legends with their mystical powers. Ranking just next to diamonds in hardness, sapphires are also found suspended inside mechanical watch gears. The ring is made in 18k white gold, and it weighs a total of 6.81 grams; size 5 US (re-sizeable). Additionally, the sapphire is accompanied by a gemological report from GIA that states that the 11.13-carat sapphire originates from Sri Lanka and shows indications of heat treatment.
