Type IIa (2A) diamonds are a rare and unique niche of pure carbon diamonds that often display a higher color than a conventional (Type Ia) D-color diamond. GIA Research claims, “less than 2% of the world's gem-quality diamonds are Type IIa.” Unlike other diamonds, their lattice structure has no measurable traces of nitrogen or boron, leading to their superior color. Additionally, our selection of Type IIa diamonds is absent from various inclusions and properties affecting a stone’s durability and appearance. These include feathers, knots, cavities, chips, clouds, bruises, internal or external graining, indented naturals, needles, polishing marks, overtone color, and fluorescence. Additionally, we carefully examine cutting parameters that result in excellent brilliance, fire, and scintillation. Some famous examples of Type IIa diamonds are the Cullinan Diamond at 530.20 carats, the ‘Koh-i-noor Diamond’ at 105.60-carats, and the Fancy Intense Pink ‘Princie’ Diamond at 34.65 carats.
